Use of CMOS in Computers
To understand the use of CMOS in a previous computer, we must first understand the difference between BIOS and CMOS. BIOS and CMOS are often considered by most people to be the same thing and are one entity. But in reality these two types of components are not the same thing. The difference seen from these two components lies in the functions that exist in these two types of components. The chip in the BIOS contains a special program that helps the computer processor to interact and also control other computer devices. The information storage capacity that CMOS can store is very small and usually only consists of 64 bytes.
Specifically CMOS on most computers acts as a special RAM chip. In contrast to other types of RAM CMOS has its own resources in the form of a CMOS battery. This resource does not depend on the main resources available on the computer. So even though the main resources of the computer have been stopped, CMOS will still keep the data contained in this component.
